đ¸ IMPORTANT: Walk Zone Updates Every LPS Family Should Know
New walk zones, bus deadlines, and what it means for your family.
Hey LPS families, itâs Candiss here đ. I wanted to take a minute to break down something important for the upcoming school year: new school walk zone maps.
The district has updated the maps using a new software called Routefinder Plus, which is designed to make the information more accurate and student-friendly. That means a few walk zones have shifted, and for some families, that could change whether their child qualifies for bus transportation.
Hereâs what you need to know (straight from one parent to another):
đ Find Your Map
Head over to the Transportation Departmentâs webpage â scroll to your triad (Churchill, Franklin, or Stevenson) â click your schoolâs map. Iâve also included the updated maps in this post so you donât have to hunt them down.
đĄ If Your Child Has an IEP
Donât worryâthis does not affect students who receive transportation through their IEP. Those plans stay the same.
đ Bus Info & Deadlines
Bus routes, stops, and times will show up in Parent Connect the week of August 18.
If your child qualifies for busing under the new zones, please register by August 13.
Miss the deadline? Youâll still receive service, but not until September 8 (and thereâs a three-day gap before it takes effect).
đŚ Why the Change?
The district uses walking-distance guidelines, but they also factor in safety and real-life paths (like sidewalks, crossings, and age-appropriate routes). In many cases, kids walk less than the âpolicy distance.â In some instances, itâs a little longerâbut only when itâs safe and direct.
â¤ď¸ My Take
Look, I get itâany time the district makes a change, it can feel overwhelming. Iâm sharing this because I know how important it is for us as parents to plan (especially for those first chaotic weeks of school). These updates were made with safety in mind, and I hope they help make the mornings a little smoother for everyone.
Take a moment to review your childâs updated map. And if you have questions, the Transportation Department is there to help.
Safe walking (and busing) this year,
